“Goa” is a beautiful city by the beach in India, incredibly popular with all ages, and easy to fall in love with. During my recent visit, I stayed for 4 days with my family at the Planet Hollywood Hotel located in South Goa. The hotel is well known among the Bollywood circuit as Gauri Khan, the talented spouse of the famed Shahrukh Khan, is responsible for the design of the hotel-lobby; the hotel is owned by Mr. J.M. Joshi, India’s award winning business tycoon.
From the impressive lobby to the Heart Bar to the Fame restaurant, everything seems lavish, perfect and seemingly designed for high-end tastes. The beautiful resort is built on a 10-acre piece of land and features 115 rooms that offer breathtaking views of the beautifully landscaped gardens and the pool. Each room has a unique look with Hollywood collectables and endowed with soft mood lighting that matching one’s preference for class. I opted for a pool side room on the 1st floor that showcased the beautiful view of the hotel round the clock.
Beach: The hotel is located on the gorgeous, clean and serene “Uttorda beach” with a direct access for hotel guests to it. I spent hours walking on the beach while my son enjoyed making sand castles. There were a few water sports activities available at hand: Jet Ski, Parasaling, and a Boat ride. I decided to try my hand at Parasaling and enjoyed it immensely. The beach has several restaurants designed with a relaxed shack feel to them where one can enjoy drinks and a meal, right by the beach.
Recreational Activities: The hotel is equipped with an eye-catching swimming pool for adults, a kids pool and a jacuzzi, a kids area amongst the greenery, outdoor yoga (offering free sessions for all guests on certain days), a fully equipped beauty salon and the availability of a dietitian on request, a signature trance fitness gymnasium with cardio-vascular, strength, endurance building equipment.
Spa Fun: I loved the Pink Room Spa which features 5 treatment rooms and some outdoor treatment spaces. I opted for Shiraha Shanti (third eye treatment). This is a unique Ayurvedic therapy which regulates sleep patterns, reduces stress and improves memory. In this therapy, warm herbal oil is continuously poured on the forehead, especially on “third eye”, allowing the oil to run through the scalp and into the hair. It’s a 60 minute treatment priced at INR 4,500 or 90 minutes for INR 5,500.
Private Dinner under the stars: The hotel staff was outstanding in their arrangement of a stunning set-up for us by the pool side. Dinner under the stars with a sweet candle light theme and a special menu made it an ever-memorable experience. We opted for Indian food and savored some delicious Rajma Galouti, Paneer Tikka, Murgh Wajid Kebab, Chicken Makhani, Jeera Pulao, Paneer Methi, Bhindi Burji, Makkai Palak, Dal fry and Tawa Roti. For desert, the Ras Malai and Gulab Jamun were absolutely scrumptious. A dinner to remember indeed.
Fame Restaurant : The Fame restaurant near the pool serves Western and Asian cuisine with an indoor and outdoor sitting area. They are open for both lunch and dinner. During dinner. They have a live guitarist to keep the guests entertained while Chef Siddhartha and his team take good care of the culinary end of things. The restaurant offers an array of contemporary platters including grilled seafood, choicest meat cuts and fresh vegetables, along with Asian stir fries. On certain days of the week, they also have a live sushi, sashimi and teppanyaki station near the pool.
Planet Dailies : This is the all-day dining restaurant that presents a buffet featuring International, Far East Asian and Indian delicacies over breakfast, lunch and dinner. The restaurant also has an a la carte menu featuring fresh garden salads, gourmet sandwiches, wraps and local curries. The restaurant’s al fresco dining is a great place to enjoy a late breakfast or a laid back lunch over fruit cocktails.
Heart Bar: Along with the lobby, the Heart Bar is also designed by Gauri Khan. They serve a large selection of vodkas and other spirits. Innovative cocktails and music set the mood for a splendid evening.
Planet Hollywood is also renowned for its gorgeous wedding set-up. In fact I met some guests at the hotel who were planning their upcoming special day at the resort. A beach wedding by the sunset, dinner under the stars, a pool party and more. I can totally imagine the fun!!! Here’s to hoping to go back soon to Goa and Planet Hollywood!!!
