After a long time I went along with my family to “Handi” located at Jood Palace hotel in Deira. It’s one of the oldest Indian restaurant in town known for its authentic Indian specially Lucknowi flavours. Our evening started with live Indian music: Jagjit Singh’s gazals to be precise to add to the ambiance. The service staff was good and luckily as the restaurant was not busy so we were getting more attention. We started with soups: Murg Shorba, Dal Shorba and Tomato Shorba . I loved Tomato Shorba while my son and hubby enjoyed the Murg Shorba. Masala Papad was good as well and I finished it all by myself. For starters I enjoyed Kaali Mirch ka panner and Anjeer Seekh Kebab. I found Aloo Chat a little less flavorsome. In non-veg, my partner enjoyed Galauti kebab and the mixed grilled platter. Chicken was slightly more lemony but later the Chef fixed it and it was fine.
For main course we ordered for Mushroom Mutter, Tandori Roti and the famous Subz Handi. It was all delicious. No complaints. They are quite vegetarian friendly.
We requested for many of our favorite songs while enjoying the dinner. The highlight of the evening was the latest song from Diwale, they sang it way too well (Janam Janam sang originally by Arijit Singh and Antara Mitra).
I had a brief conversation with the The Master Chef “Mohd Rasheed” : the Chef behind the yummy food at Handi for so many years. He comes from Lucknow and is closely related to legendary Master Chef Imtiaz Qureshi. He mentioned that most of his staff comes from Lucknow : one of the best places in India for great food. Of course, the food in “Handi” had to be good.
