Sheraton Maldives Full Moon Resort & Spa: A Must Go

Maldives is a versatile holiday destination where one can go again and again for anything from a romantic honeymoon to a relaxing family-trip to a senses-stimulating diving expedition. It is a perfect getaway if you want to relax and disconnect from the world and indulge in nature at its best and spend some quality time with your loved ones. It is a magnet for those seeking stunning white sandy beaches and warm turquoise lagoons.

When you are deciding on the Maldives, it can be difficult to choose from the variety of islands on offer; they are all stunning and exotic. For my recent trip, I opted for the Sheraton Maldives due to its charm and proximity to the airport (it is a 15-minute speed-boat ride from Male’s airport); the dazzling island is reachable in less than 5 hours from Dubai.

For a couple, I recommend the Water Bungalow with its spectacular ocean views. It is built on stilts over the lagoon, and dipping into crystal clear waters is as easy as walking down the steps from your private sun terrace. Rates start at USD 625/night. For a family of 3 or 4, a comfortable Island cottage is ideal. Rates start at USD 500/night.

There is a lavish and delectable buffet breakfast for the guests every morning at Feast. Seafood lovers must visit Sea Salt to enjoy beach-side, al fresco dining. Featuring a lava stone grill, watch as the chefs barbeque the finest selection of freshly caught fish, local lobster and prime meats. Vegetarians will not be disappointed as they will find a very respectable variety of Italian, Indian and a wide range of dishes influenced by regional cuisine at Sand Coast, with a beautiful ocean view. Post dinner you must visit the Anchorage Bar as they have superb entertainment planned for the nights with a live band or DJ. You can enjoy their sheesha and signature cocktails in a relaxed lounge set-up and enjoy a panoramic view of the Indian Ocean while music wafts through the air. If you are looking for a private dinner on the island to make your date special, feel-free to request for it and they will be happy to set it up.

At Shine Spa, close to a particularly tranquil part of the ocean, the couple’s massage for 2, called Shine, is highly recommended. It lasts 105 minutes and includes a foot ritual, aromatic mist, body massage and gentle stretching.

After a dip in the pool or lazing on the beach, venture forth for some adventurous water sports with your partner, particularly parasailing, where you float, freely suspended high above the ocean and just below the sky – pure bliss! There are a wide range of other water sports / activities available from Banana boats to Ski tubes. The Maldives are also renowned for being among the finer places in the world to scuba dive, so if you have sufficient time and inclination, you shouldn’t miss it; a vast array of magnificent marine life is unveiled to you, with visibility sometimes exceeding 50 meters. One can also try a private snorkeling trip if you desire a personalized experience with your loved one. Kayaking (canoe), stand up paddle and borrowing snorkeling equipment is free.

For families with kids, the island boasts an Adventure club for Kids that hosts exciting activities and introduces the young ones to local traditions. Parents can enroll children aged 4-12 free of charge while they go for water sports or other activities. The children will be thoroughly entertained with a fun-filled day of activities including beach games, scavenger hunts, coconut bowling and more! The Sheraton Adventure Club also teaches the children about local Maldivian culture through traditional music and dance or mini lessons on Dhivehi, the Maldivian language.

The Sheraton Maldives Full Moon Resort & Spa offers something for everyone, from rest and relaxation, to adventure and exhilaration; the choices are endless.
